Politic's opinions at work?

I have a issues, I was a work function, the subject about the new az immigration came up and two people were speaking about it, I might add that one of the persons is a Latino based and agreed with the new law, when other people started to jump in, When one of the persons were defending there own opinions, was called a traitor due to his Latino descent. Anyhow the other people that jump in to the agreement reported it to a supervisor and now the person that was speaking about the subject may be fired. Is this a justifiable cause for expressing his first adment right, keep in mind that no one express there objections to the agurement that they were offended.
