Do You Feel That Religion Is Mainly There Because People Are Afraid Of Death (OPEN TO ALL)?

Is organized religion just an answer to soothe the questions about what happens after we die? Is it possible that people only belong to a certain religion because they are trying to avoid an eternity or torment? If so, under your religion are you really following your religion because of your unconditional love and reverence for your God, or because you don't want to go to damnation? If people knew for a fact there was an afterlife of peace and happiness, would they still do all the religious things they do?
