Dilated cardiomyopathy -- Left ventricular dilation at 7.7 cm?
My husband , 61 has dilated cardiomyopathy. A medical report from last year says that he has "severe left ventricular dilation, 7.7 cm". All other parts of the heart are reported to be either "moderately" or "mildly" dilated. Could anyone please give me an idea of dangerous this is, how much larger than normal it is (he is 6'2" and weighs about 200 lbs). How much larger can it get before it becomes acutely life threatening? What can I expect as to his life expectancy (he also has copd with only a little over 18 in VO2 max (not sure I got the wording of th measurement correct) which apparently is considered "very poor"). He refuses to talk about his disease and seems to be in denial as to how sick he is. I know he is gravely ill, but would like to get some kind of idea whether I can expect him to live weeks, months or years, if possible. Thankyou.
